CAUTION: The below links describes the abuse Joshua Osborne endured and it is very disturbing/graphic..
“I, Joshua Osborne, am a victim of child abuse. I was chained to the bed. I was given soup and water. Amongst neglect and other forms of abuse, I became a survivor. Child abuse is an insidious type of crime where the victims are, for many reasons, unable to or are fearful of confronting or reporting the perpetrator to authorities.
As a survivor, I want to help other children by bringing to light our state laws. Tennessee laws on child abuse are so vague. 37-1-401 et seq. states: Any wound, injury, disability, or physical or mental condition which is of a nature as to reasonably indicate that it has been caused by brutality, abuse, or neglect; also includes sexual abuse.”
“Josh weighs about 100 pounds, but he weighed only half that when police found him.
“I was so hungry,” he said.”
Rereading this story brings tears to my eyes. It breaks my heart that such evil exists and those awful deeds were done to him. I recall having a conversation with a friend a couple of weeks ago…He believes that there is no evil. He hypothesizes that ‘evil’ is an illusion. That the human being whom commits an evil act, such as abuse, is crying out for help and just needs help and to be loved. I 100% disagree. There is evil in this world. The people who abused Josh were/are evil. Please understand that I believe that God’s grace is available to everyone. God’s mercy and love extend to the most vile killer or the most corrupt politician. But you can offer open arms and your home to an evil person and find a knife in your back and your house burnt down.
Human beings are frail, sensitive, wonderful creatures made in the image of Truth himself, Jesus Christ. We must deal tenderly with each other and lovingly. But we must also excercise caution and restraint when ministering to evil or potentially dangerous persons.
I have met Josh. I smile so big and laugh every time I see him on the local news. He is a very likeable guy and has this joyful energy that is contagious. He sentences and thoughts are simple but so profound. Last time I talked to him we were playing air guitar and he started singing in his awkward but honest voice. The most beautiful person is someone who is unconscious of themselves, fully wrapped up in their passion or work, praising God by being a good father, attentive mother, Goodwill worker, gentle Nurse, honest mechanic, or whatever it is that God has written on your heart.
I am proud to have met you Josh. I know you will bring hope and joy to all of the people you meet…Your pains will become like balm to the hurt and abused as you reach out with your wounded hands and simple eyes that say more than any eloquent classically trained poet could ever hope to scribe into a soliloquy.
